NEW DELHI: Linux Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai-based Linux solutions
provider, has announced the formal launch of its general-purpose operating
system, Aryabhatt Linux. Aryabhatt Linux is the first general distribution of
Linux in India.
Linux Technologies is a registered corporate entity in India focusing on
research on the Linux Kernel, with the aim of developing effective software
solutions economically. The corporate mission of the company is to develop a
more stable and economical operating system based on the Linux Kernel. The
company also plans to develop applications on the Linux platform to support the
operating system, and to make Aryabhatt Linux the complete solution for all
computing needs.
"Our mission is to give India a good operating system. We have spent two
years in developing this operating system and can proudly say that Aryabhatt
Linux is on par with any operating system in the world and, in addition, is
specifically customized for the Indian user," said Linux Technologies MD
Vishal Gupta.
Aryabhatt Linux provides solutions for networks as well as individual PCs and
incorporates support for hardware and applications that are unique to the Indian
market. The operating system gives the user all the benefits of the already
established Linux platform along with a GUI, an up-to-date office suite, and
other applications that are needed for everyday computing needs.
Besides supporting most hardware, Aryabhatt Linux will also benefit the
Indian users through its minimum hardware requirements. Aryabhatt Linux supports
all x 86 compatible PCs with 16 MB of RAM and 640 MB of hard disk space.
In addition to the development of Aryabhatt Linux, Linux Technologies also
intends to play an active role in the development of the Indian Linux market.
The company has already formed strategic alliances with training institutes such
as Datapro and LCC to provide education on the Linux platform. The company also
plans to form alliances with key players, both Indian and global, in the areas
of application and software development as well as with computer manufacturers.
"We are confident of the product we have developed. Now the next task is to
bring it to the end consumer, both in the corporate sector as well as the home
PC user. We plan to do this through alliances with key players in various
related sectors," said Gupta.
