Renesas opens Bangalore R&D centre

BANGALORE, INDIA: Expect new communication platforms to emerge soon. Even cars in future will come with fitted with communication capabilities. The new capabilities will be based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) which is the latest standard in the mobile network technology tree, said Heikki Tenhunen, senior vice president of Renesas Mobile Corporation here on Wednesday.

"These communications devices will be capable of interacting with car manufacturers or other applications," he added while announcing the opening of Renesas Mobile Corporation's  new research and development (R&D) centre here.

The center will be focusing on developing 2G, 3G and 4G modem technologies.

“Today Renesas Mobile India is a key R&D centre in wireless modem technology, performing leading edge

technology development. We have been already demonstrating VAMOS calls (2G), HSDPA data transfer (3G) and LTE data transfer with with Renesas Mobile Corporation chipsets” said Tenhunen.

“In addition to 2G, 3G, and LTE, Renesas Mobile India is performing core technology development within TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE technologies.”

Tenhunen said that the Renesas Mobile India is contributing in every aspect of product creation from 3GPP standardization, to system design, to implementation and customer support, and is a full-capability R&D centre,” said Allan Frederiksen, Managing Director of Renesas Mobile India, Pvt, Ltd. “Coming from Wireless Modem group in Nokia, we are proud to continue the development of our world-class technology in Renesas Mobile here in Bangalore”,

Renesas Mobile India expects to invest approximately USD 115 million within five years, which includes personnel and capital costs. The company has about 230 employees.
