Under the deal, 48East founders Joseph Cherian and Nabhojit Ghosh will join Swiggy to build the new supply business with Cherian taking the mantle of chief operating officer for the vertical- Swiggy Access which was launched last month.

Swiggy Access is the first initiative under the ‘New Supply’ business line through which the company brings a variety of food to consumers by enabling plug-and-play expansion for restaurant partners in different areas. Over the next six months, Swiggy plans to introduce 40 restaurant partners to newer neighbourhoods across the country through Swiggy Access.

“With their deep understanding of the food space and an impressive track record of delivering a great consumer experience, the 48East team will equip Swiggy with additional capabilities. We are excited to work with them towards our vision of changing the way India eats,” said Sriharsha Majety, CEO, Swiggy.

Started in August 2016, 48East offers a new menu every week, operates five kitchens, processes 9,000 orders a month and serves over a dozen areas in Bangalore.

Cherian will report to Vishal Bhatia, who was appointed CEO for the ‘New Supply’ business line last week.
