The WEF Global Gender Gap report states that the average hiring of women has increased by 6 percent across the 12 industries surveyed. It also says that sectors like Energy and Mining, Real estate and Manufacturing show the highest percentage of change in female hiring rate in the last 10 years. While globally, Software and IT services, Manufacturing and Healthcare industries have shown the highest increases, while the Energy and Mining sector ranks among the lowest.

Among the industries surveyed globally, large gaps were found in the availability of women talent for entry-level positions and the demand for hiring in industries like Manufacturing, and Energy and Mining, the talent pool of women graduates were found to be much larger than the demand for hires, the report stated. Meanwhile, in Nonprofit and Media and Communications, the demand for female employee hiring surpassed the supply.

Although, women worldwide are making progress in closing the gap in critical areas such as Healthcare and Education, gender parity still exists in some organizations. The report estimates that it will take 127 years to completely close the economic gender gap.
