Apple has come out with a beta version of iOS 10 and is offering to the public, for the very first time. So, you don't need to pay $99 a year for a developer account, you can just download the beta version on your phone.

Apple released the beta version to the public because it wants you to try out its new operating system before releasing it in the fall. The developer beta lets developers take advantage of all the new APIs, while the public beta is to take feedback and iron out the bugs.

But since it is a raw version of the final update, you shouldn’t install the iOS beta on your primary phone or iPad. Some things won’t work while others might crash your phone altogether.

Even if you try it out on a spare Apple device, make sure your iCloud backup is up to date.

To download the iOS beta, enroll your compatible iOS device. Then you have to install a configuration profile and update iOS. In September, your device should automatically update to the final version of iOS 10.
