The company announced a new feature for advertisers, helping them to promote ads that eventually get the customer engaged in a conversation with a chatbot, all within Direct Message function.

These interactions get started via a promoted “Direct Message Card,” the new, customizable card for businesses. These card style advertisements that can be clicked upon to engage into direct messages with the chatbot. You can also customise these cards and add up to 4 call to action buttons.

Notably, the goal of these interactions is not to make more sales, but to build good interactions between companies and their potential customers.

Currently, only advertisers can access the new cards, which is already in Beta. With its short message format and the Direct Messaging service, Twitter could be a good place for bots. However, whether or not consumers will actively embrace bots at scale remains to be seen.
