Tesla, the electric carmaker, is planning to create its own music streaming service, according to a report from Recode. Apparently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is in talks with major music labels about creating a streaming service that would come bundled in all Tesla vehicles, which already comes with a high-tech dashboard and internet connectivity.

"We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose,” a Tesla spokesperson told Recode. “Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”

It's quite an intriguing move, considering Tesla could simply opt to offer pre-existing services like Spotify, Apple Music or Pandora. Music streaming is already a saturated market and it's going to be an uphill task for Tesla to cut ice in there.

But whatever it is, Musk only knows his moves best. He even hinted that the company was exploring music products at the most recent Tesla shareholder meeting in early June, as it’s “very hard to find good playlists or good matching algorithms” for music you want to hear while driving. A music streaming service could also be the start of Tesla offering its subscription-based services.
