The company has been testing food delivery with UberEats mobile application in as many as 200 restaurants. Now, the company is planning to launch deliveries in several US cities by June end.

"We’re encouraged by the start we’ve had. We are not in a test mode; we are expanding," said McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook.

"One of our greatest competitive advantages is that we’re closer to more customers than any other restaurant company in the world, with nearly 75 percent of the population in our five largest markets living within three miles of a McDonald’s," he further added.

"We’re working aggressively to identify the right operating models for bringing delivery to more customers–whether we control all aspects of the delivery process from end to end or partner with third parties for ordering and fulfilment. We have a number of pilots underway and plan to scale quickly based on results."

Last month, while announcing growth plans, the company hinted that the UK, US, France, Germany and Canada would be the next countries to get on-demand french fries. The burger chain also already runs delivery services in China and Singapore.

McDonald’s recently launched a new app allowing customers to save menu preferences and order their favourite foods when they visit a chain.
