Zomato lifts Akshant Goyal as the new Financial Officer

Zomato IPO to open from July 14 to 16; Price band ₹72-76 per share

Gurugram-headquartered – Zomato – has elevated Akshant Goyal as its new chief financial officer. He will be replacing Akriti Chopra, who was named as the CFO last year in April. Akriti will be moving into a new role that the company has not yet announced. Zomato has made several changes to its finance portfolio - three times in the last two years. After Sameer Maheshwary had stepped down from his position, the company lifted Akriti Chopra as the CFO almost a year later in April 2019. Now, Goyal will be the third one to hold this position.

Goyal has been associated with Zomato for around 4 years now. Before taking over as CFO, he was the head of corporate development at the food delivery company. He will now be responsible for leading people development. He has played an instrumental role in the company’s fundraising efforts.

Interestingly, the leadership change comes at a time when Zomato is gearing up to go public by the first half of 2021. Zomato values at $3 billion as a part of its ongoing $600 million funding round. As of now, it has raised more than $270 million in investments alone from leading global investors like Temasek, Tiger Global Management, Ant Financial and others.

About Akshant Goyal

Akshant completed his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) from Delhi College of Engineering in 2005. He majored in computer science. Post-completion, he kicked off his professional journey as an Associate Engineer in GlobalLogic. He worked in the company for around one year and later went on to pursue his master’s degree in business administration and completed it in 2008 from IIM Bangalore.

He currently holds a rich professional experience of working in finance domain. Goyal worked as an investment banker in Kotak Mahindra for about 7 years. He also co-founded PinCap, a fintech firm that helped SMEs secure short-term loans. Alongside being a co-founder, he also managed the startup’s finances for about one year. This has added to his knowledge of the field. His leadership skills will help Zomato achieve its goals of securing funds and going for the public listing by the targeted time, the company states.
