Zomato CMO Gaurav Verma has said that he has moved out of the food delivery platform. He announced via a post on his social media account where he said, “Last week was my last at Zomato. An epic adventure over the last couple of years. A super steep learning curve with some amazing highs. Met some of the brightest, committed and creative people along the way. Was a moment of pride to be up on the Z website as ‘one of the folks you might work with’. Will always be cheering on from the side! Super excited about the next journey.. but more about that shortly.”

About Gaurav Verma

Verma joined Zomato in 2019. Before that, he was with PepsiCo for over 9 years. This was his longest stint he worked in different categories. These included Tropicana, Lays, Kurkure, and others. After joining Zomato s CMO-Brand, soon, he was elevated to Global Growth Head for dining out for a brief period of six months. Later, he was again given the mantle for marketing in April this year. He has also been associated with organisations like Tata Tea Ltd, IMC India and ITC Foods.

An IIM Banglore and IIT Madras alumnus, Verma led the brand marketing activities for Zomato throughout the pandemic and spearheaded several interesting campaigns. Talking about his learning from all his workspaces, also including Zomato, Verma mentions these key pointers.

– Think consumer first. That lens always keeps you focused.
– Learnings can come from anywhere. From your kids, from sports. Listen and stay curious.
– Ask (and keep asking) the why – the first reply typically is never really real.
– There is no time for politics. So, always say it as you mean it.
– Lead with empathy. Results matter but will only come from the team you work with.

To anyone confused, Gaurav was not responsible for the fun ads on Zomato social media. It is a digital marketing team that handles the brand’s quirky social media strategies. As the CMO of Zomato, Verma led the team’s expansion in India. Last week, Zomato COO Gaurav Gupta stepped down to lead a new role as the head of nutraceuticals business.
