Follow UsSANTA CLARA, USA: Zmanda, the leader in open source backup and recovery software has announced an upgrade to its Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL backup and recovery solution.
Among the new ZRM 3.1 features is a visual log analyzer, which allows database administrators (DBAs) to identify operator errors, catch malicious database changes, and easily revert errors or malicious events by restoring information from previous backups.
MySQL becoming more attractive in India
Zmanda anticipates releasing its backup of MySQL to the Sun Cloud Storage offering this summer, concurrent with the general availability of the Sun Cloud. This offering will allow DBAs to create disaster recovery archives of their MySQL databases on a flexible and open public cloud.
ZRM 3.1 is the first solution to visually show database events in an intuitive manner, and gives complete control of the recovery to the DBA. The built-in visual log analyzer is optimized to scale to millions of database events, which can be quickly searched. The DBA is given powerful options to include or exclude selected events while performing a point-in-time recovery.
“As MySQL databases power increasingly complex applications, the recovery of these applications after a mishap becomes complex as well,” said Paddy Sreenivasan, vice president of engineering, Zmanda.
Database development with MySQL
“For example, during a recovery process a DBA may want to exclude specific events, such as erroneous transactions. With multiple users and applications accessing a MySQL database, many of these events may be spread apart, and a DBA may want to undo transactions by a particular user or of a particular type. The new visual log analyzer will enable them to do this easily,” he added.
“Now MySQL DBAs, especially those who are managing large and high-transaction environments, can benefit from the Visual log analyzer and selective recovery features of the new Zmanda Recovery Manager 3.1,” said Nicolas Pujol, head of MySQL Alliances and Channels, Sun Microsystems.
ZRM includes unique, enterprise-grade features such as MySQL storage engine and snapshot intelligence, replication support, integration of backup operations with MySQL binary logs, and the Zmanda Management Console, a powerful Web-based graphical user interface that lets DBAs control backup and recovery across all MySQL servers from any browser enabled device.
