Using ZRM, MySQL databases, including those running on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), can now be backed up to a destination of choice, including a remote cloud storage service. ZRM also allows on-premises MySQL databases to be backed up to the upcoming Sun Cloud Storage Service, which enables DBAs to create disaster recovery archives of databases on a flexible, secure and open public cloud.

“MySQL is already the most-deployed database in today’s cloud environments,” said Mark Herring, vice president, MySQL and Software Infrastructure marketing, Sun Microsystems.

“Zmanda’s new solution enables database administrators to confidently run their production MySQL-based applications on the cloud. With ZRM, MySQL DBAs can also realize the cost and scalability benefits of storing backup archives of MySQL databases on highly-available and elastic storage clouds,” added Herring.

“MySQL is a database for the online world and is best backed up online,” said Chander Kant, chief executive officer, Zmanda. “The addition of cloud support for MySQL was a natural evolution of our open source backup product portfolio, as DBAs can now confidently move their production deployments to the cloud and know that the data will be protected.”

Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) is a solution used to automate backup and recovery of MySQL database applications. ZRM includes unique, enterprise-grade features such as MySQL storage engine and snapshot intelligence, visual log analyzer, replication support, integration of backup operations with MySQL binary logs.
