BANGALORE: Zenith Computers Ltd. has launched the Zenith corporate notebook - what the company claims as the first global roaming notebook computer.

The company has signed an alliance with Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) to offer the global Internet roaming service. Zenith Computer chairman and managing director Raj Saraf said, "This is the first company that offers Pentium II in a notebook computer and not a Celeron model. The Zenith corporate notebook not only takes into account the portable computing requirements but also combines the latest technology as a value-for-money proposition.''

The company senior vice-president Shirkant Joshi said, "In order to stay connected through a variety of Internet services and obtain critical information there is no need for multiple Internet accounts with different international Internet service providers. Zenith supplied VSNL Internet account with single username and single password will serve the purpose.''

The company expects to sell 3,000 notebooks by the end of 2000. The notebook is powered with an Intel mobile Pentium II 366 MHz processor. The notebook also has a built-in 144 MB FDD, 4.8 GB HDD, CD-ROM drive, 32 MB RAM and a 56 Kbps V.90 ready modem and is priced at Rs 99,990. Along with the notebook computer, Zenith is offering an exclusive CD-ROM titled Zen from Zenith. The CD-ROM consists of Norton Anti-Virus Gold Version 5.0, nVet with Zenith, a personal finance software, Zenith organizer and Zenith VSOFT Sandesh.
