BANGALORE: Zeenext.com has introduced voice mail services and plans to launch

video mail services by the end of this month in India. To make voice and video

mail a practical reality under the current bandwidth restrictions in India,

zeenext.com is using unique proprietary compression software. This compression

software enables the compression of audio and video files with subsequent

downloading and decompression at a rate of up to 15 times faster than the MP3

format. According to the company, an uncompressed recording of one second of

audio on regular available recording formats takes between 8-175 KB per second,

whereas the new technology used here takes approximately 1K for a second of

audio recording. Similarly, video clippings of 1 second are normally 1Mb in

size. The new software compresses the recordings to 10Kb per second.

To avail this facility, users would require multimedia PC with a mike for

voice mail and a Web camera for video mail.
