Young Woman Engineer turns Achiever

BANGALORE, KARNATAKA: Bijal (Bee) Thakore, Technical Assistant to Premier Farnell's CEO Harriet Green, has been named '2010 Young Achiever of the Year' by the Asian Women of Achievements Awards held in London this May.

28-year-old Thakore, who was also awarded the prestigious 2009 Women Engineering Society's Young Engineer Award from the Institute of Engineering and Technology, is an aeronautical engineer and founder of interdisciplinary engineering house Big On Good Solutions. She also volunteers to help young people interested in sciences as a trustee at the UK Space Education Trust and is the youngest member on the board of directors of the world's largest space advocacy group, The Planetary Society.

Prior to joining Premier Farnell, Bijal was the Client Development Officer at LEGO Play for Business. Before her time at LEGO she worked at the Composite Research Lab at AIRBUS, and at Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace Ltd., working with the Future Projects Office, supporting flight testing of next generation of Adour Mk951 Jet Engines.

Bijal was born in India, and has worked and lived in the UK, Canada, France, China and US. She has a Masters of Engineering in Aerospace from the University of Bath and a Masters of Space Management from the International Space University, shares a press release.
