MUMBAI: Yahoo India has entered into an alliance with Orange brand of Max
Hutchison Group to provide mobile subscribers with a hot of Internet
applications. This was announced at a press conference by Orange CEO, Sandip
Das.
Das said the alliance would offer a host of Internet applications to the
mobile subscriber.
The offerings would include provision that would enable phone users to
communicate, via SMS, to any of the friends on their Yahoo Messenger list. This
would allow users to communicate seamlessly and instantly across devices like PC
and mobile phone, irrespective of their geographic boundaries.
The offerings would be available only to Orange subscribers. Orange now plans
to provide more value-added services shortly.
Yahoo India's country head Deepak Chandnai said the alliance was in line with
the firm's objective of being a user centric offering. He said that India was
the second country after Singapore where Yahoo Messenger for SMS has been
launched.
With a customer base around 3.5 lakh, the firm is now hoping to see a 20 per
cent increase with its new offerings.
