BANGALORE, INDIA: Yahoo! Inc. chief executive officer Jerry Yang today in an email to the company's employees encouraged them to stay focused on executing the company's priorities while "the Board of Directors of the company continues its process to review the company’s strategic alternatives in connection with the recent unsolicited proposal made by Microsoft Corporation to acquire the company."

A copy of the email was today submitted to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Yang had earlier on Monday sent a similar internal email, which was later leaked to the media.

"The Board is focused on maximizing the value of Yahoo!’s tremendous assets for our shareholders. And it is going to take the time it needs to do it right," Yang said in the email.

He added that no decisions have been made regarding the Microsoft proposal. "Our Board is thoughtfully evaluating a wide range of potential strategic alternatives in what is a complex and evolving landscape. And we’ve hired top advisors to assist through the process."

Yang promised that the Board will be doing what is best for Yahoo! and its shareholders.

"The Microsoft interest highlights the tremendous strength of the Yahoo! brand and assets: our half billion users around the world, our leading products and services, our open ad network, our technology, and most of all, our amazingly talented people," the mail said.

Microsoft had on Friday, offered to buy Yahoo! for $44.6 billion, in a bid to transform the two Internet businesses into a worthy competitor for market leader Google Inc.

The price quoted was a 62 percent premium over Yahoo!'s Thursday close, but only about a quarter of what the Internet company was worth at the height of the dotcom bubble in 2000.
