Rediff was also the leader in Hyderabad with 16 per cent of Internet households indicating it as the most frequently visited website against 6 per cent for Hotmail and 3 per cent for Yahoo.

At a national level, even though Yahoo emerged as the 'most frequently visited Web site', Rediff was the only Indian portal that emerged amongst the top five 'most frequently visited Web site' across all Internet households, emerging at the third position.

These results were part of a large survey recently carried out by IDC India. Titled 'Understanding Internet Usage Behaviour - Present and Future', the study aimed to capture the Internet usage trends, habits and practices of users and to explore the non-users for not adopting the medium. It was conducted across homes and establishments wherein a total of 4,122 respondents across 13 cities in the country were contacted. The sample consisted of both, users as well as non-users of the Internet. A total of 616 Internet-owning households were contacted for the survey.
