Yahoo buys location-based social network Koprol

SAN JOSE, USA: Internet giant Yahoo today announced that it has acquired Koprol, a location based social network, headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The financial details of the deal was not disclosed. The Koprol acquisition will help extend social and mobile strategy with location-based community.

Yahoo said that it would continue to invest in evolving Koprol's service and announce new mobile applications for both local and global mobile platforms in the future.

The website lets people connect, as well as share photos, reviews and additional information about locations in real-time using their mobile phone browser. It also helps people find local businesses based on user ratings including a 'thumbs-up' feature to elevate favorite places to the top of the ranking.
