Xilinx acquires Modesat Comm

BANGALORE, INDIA: Xilinx has acquired Modesat Communications, a wireless backhaul solutions provider that provides design expertise to accelerate time to market for wireless mobile backhaul platforms based on Xilinx All Programmable 7 series FPGAs and Zynq-7000 SoCs. Modesat Communications was established in 2005 in Tallinn, Estonia and it specialises in the development of backhaul modem solutions for microwave, E-band and NLOS (non-line of sight) markets.

With this acquisition, Xilinx has broadened its portfolio of solutions IP and services to address their backhaul strategy.

Modesat IP solutions are designed from the ground up and are targeted at FPGA silicon. Its IP solutions are optimised algorithmic implementations. As per Modesat, its patented technology has been validated by customers and designed into multiple customer backhaul systems. Its IP solutions address the requirements for wireless single carrier PHY, packet processing and connectivity (eNet) capabilities.

Customers have the advantages of high system performance and low power consumption by targeting Xilinx All Programmable FPGAs and Zynq-7000 SoCs with Modesat's IP cores. It also provides more flexibility of All Programmable system integration, BOM reduction and accelerated design productivity.

Xilinx wireless mobile backhaul solutions provide a viable alternative to rigid ASSP-based merchant silicon solutions in the market.
