NEW DELHI: The sales figures of XBox 360, Microsoft’s first-generation video game and entertainment system, are to touch 10 million worldwide by this year-end.
Mohit Anand, country manager for Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division said that with the market for devices such as XBox 360 being estimated at over $29 billion and bigger than that of Hollywood, the XBox 360, which was launched only a couple of months ago, would be touching the one million figure by end of 2006.
“Gaming and entertainment devices market history predicts that any device touching the one million mark would be the clear leader in the console market and we hope to achieve that by end of this year,” he said adding that the sales in India was growing much more than what was estimated.
“We started offering 35 games when we launched and by now we are at about 50 and will be reaching 100 games by mid-2007,” he informed.
Mohit said that on the online front, Microsoft would be launching the Indian-centric version of the XBox gaming portal – Xboxlive.com in the coming year. “There are currently four billion subscribers for the online version worldwide and is expected to reach by 6 million, thus becoming the largest online gaming portal,” he said.
“Microsoft will be offering two sets of subscription packages, the first level being silver, which will be free of cost. However, the second level of subscription called the Gold, would be charged, and the rates have not be finalised,” he added.
