MUMBAI: The World Bank has major plans of outsourcing over $10 million IT work to India in the next 12 months through partners and its centre in Chennai. This was stated by the World Bank vice president and chief information officer (CIO) Mohamed V Muhsin stated while speaking to CNS at Nasscom's annual event in Mumbai.

The World Bank has already outsourced $10 million work through its partners in the country in the last couple of years. Some of the partners include include Satyam, HCL and MegaSoft. Muhsin said that the World Bank was looking at adding more partners in the coming year and also increasing their IT outsourcing to the existing partners.

He said that the World Bank is presently in the process of signing in another partner through a bidding process held recently, he said. It is running a business process outsourcing (BPO) centre in Chennai with over 100 people involved in activities like accounting, procurement and loans disbursement.

"In the coming year or so, we are looking at increasing the BPO team by adding another 100 people," he said. Speaking about the possible opportunities for the Indian IT industry, he felt that India should go in for business consultancy.

The major challenge for the Indian IT industry now is undertake offshore work and becoming a business consultant. Muhsin however, has a word of caution for India here and feels that India should work on building trust since BPO involves a high risk element in terms of a business decision.
