BANGALORE, INDIA: The Anita Borg Institute (ABI) today opened applications for the scholarships to encourage to increase the participation of women students in computing and IT at the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India (GHCI) conference.

The student scholarships cover the expenses for attending the GHCI conference including the registration fee, meals and lodging for every scholarship recipient. Travel (by train or bus) is reimbursed up to a maximum of Rs 2,000 per student.

"The objective of the student scholarships is to engage and support the next generation of women computer scientists and engineers, encouraging them to pursue a life-long career in technology,” said Geetha Kannan, Managing Director, Anita Borg Institute India.

During GHCI 2014, a 130 full and partial scholarships were awarded to deserving women students in technology. The applications for the student scholarships close on 28 August, 2015.

At GHCI students get a chance to connect with other women in computing and innovative organizations; hear stories from peers and experts in computing and get quality career advice specific to their needs. Students will also get chances to meet top recruiters from global technology companies.

The conference will be held from 2-4 December, 2015 in Bangalore. The theme of the 2015 conference is ‘Our Time to Lead’. Every year the conference attracts high participation from professionals, entrepreneurs, students, corporations, government and academia.
