Wipro unveils on-line order tracking system at Horizons '99

BANGALORE: Wipro Infotech has launched an "online order tracking system for dollar orders" for software export oriented units (EOU), who place orders for IT products through Wipro Infotech. The tracking system is an attempt in reducing cycle time for EOU customers to get information on dollar orders through the web to help the customer to plan allocation of resources.



The announcement of the launch was made by Wipro Ltd. vice chairman Arun K. Thiagarajan at Horizons'99 organized by Wipro Infotech Computers and systems Integration. Horizons '99 is a technology showcase where participants are given a preview of the emerging technologies. This is the fourth year in a row that Wipro Infotech has organized Horizons. "This is a result of a six sigma quality project which recognized that delivery and tracking of orders, placed by EOU customers is of tremendous value addition to this segment," said Wipro Computer and Systems Integration division general manager K. S. Viswanathan.



IT secretary - Karnataka Sanjoy Dasgupta who delivered the key note address said, most Indian software houses have quickly adopted to the emerging opportunities to web enabled technologies, after the Y2K business opportunities ceased. He also said that the IT corridor of Bangalore would look hitech and totally different in two to three years time. He also added that the IT laws would be in place in April next year and that there is a huge requirement for e-commerce and embedded software.



Other speakers at Horizons '99 included Prem Anand of Texas Instruments who spoke on the role of Directory Services in Managing Enterprise Networks, Prof. H. Krishnamurthy of IISc, who spoke on challenges in designing and implementing multi-service networks. The other speakers were Sridhar Vutukuri of Cybercash who spoke on e-commerce and Meenakshi Sundaram of Walden India who spoke on venture capital - its role in software business.
