Wipro, Sitara tie up for broadband

BANGALORE: Wipro Infotech has signed an agreement with the US-based Sitara

Networks Inc to offer India's first Quality of Service (QoS) products that would

optimize the use of bandwidth and service quality over the Internet. QoS is the

brand name of Sitara Networks, which offers an array of products that help in

optimizing the use of the Internet and its applications. QoSWorks, QoSArray and

QoSDirector are some of the products from Sitara.

"Our QoS products will help in optimizing the existing bandwidth and

increase returns on investments. Apart from assisting companies in overcoming

bandwidth shortage, the products will also enable firms to make proper use of

the existing IT infrastructure by prioritizing the type of traffic and its

applications," said Sitara vice president (Asia Pacific operations) Ehud

Weizman.

Although prices were not mentioned, Wipro Infotech president Suresh Vaswani

hinted that it might range somewhere between "a few lakhs of rupees to half

a crore." Its potential customers include large enterprises, Internet

Service Providers and ‘Cyber Campuses’. Revenue targets or size of the

market were also not divulged by the firms.

Sitara, a pioneer in Voice over IP, provides QoS solutions that integrates

applications and networks for enterprises and service providers for offering

VoIP. The company has products that have specific implication for VoIP in India,

once it is legalized in the country.

Both the companies will be jointly setting up 'Sitara-Wipro center of QoS

excellence' in India. "The QoS excellence center will be a critical

resource base for Indian IT professionals and corporates, aiming to achieve

higher network performance, ensuring the availability of mission critical

applications and to deliver additional revenue generating services to its

customers," said Ehud Weizman.
