Wipro to set up R&D unit

HYDERABAD, August 20: Wipro Technology Solutions, a division of Wipro Infotech Software

and Services, focussing on engineering and research and development services in hardware,

systems and networking areas, is reaching out its Global R&D Labs by setting up

offshore development centres for companies such as Fujitsu, 3Com, Fuji-Xerox and Epson in

their new development centre at the Infocity at Madhapur, here, by focussing on embedded

and networking systems. The initial investment besides the investment on infrastructure,

tools, technology and people would be over $1.5 million.

Explaining the route map charted out by its Global R&D Labs, established outside

Bangalore, Wipro Infotech Chief Executive of Technology Solutions S. Janakiraman said

"We intend to expand this facility to 200 engineers in the next 12 months. We chose

Hyderabad due to the abundance of technical talent and good infrastructure.'' The

development centre is expected to achieve a revenue of over $1 million during the first

year of operations with more than 100 per cent growth per annum.

Technology Solutions vice-president Vinod P. Deshmukh said that, the technology

solutions centre in Hyderabad would focus on design, development and implementation in the

areas of embedded and networking systems. The technology solutions division has

established successful development centres for customers across the globe, including

Lucent, Alcatel, Cisco, Compaq, Mitsubishi, in its various development facilities in

Bangalore.
