BANGALORE: Wipro Limited has announced a 39 per cent growth in revenues for
the half year ended September 2000 to Rs 1,376 crore. The audited results show
the company’s profit after tax growing by a healthy 121 per cent to Rs 261.70
crore.
Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business, accounted for 56 per
cent of total revenues. The division’s revenues increased by 79 per cent for
the half-year to Rs 771.90 crore. Wipro Technologies’ R&D Services
division accounted for 49 per cent of the software revenues while the Enterprise
division contributed the remaining 51 per cent. Wipro Infotech, the Indian IT
Services and Products business, which accounted for 29 per cent of revenues, saw
a revenue growth of 13 per cent to Rs 394.30 crore.
For the half-year ended September 2000, the annualized return on capital
employed (RoCE) at Wipro Technologies was 121 per cent, 82 per cent for Wipro
Infotech and 71 per cent for the Consumer Care and Lighting division. Overall,
Wipro’s RoCE was 68 per cent.
For the quarter ended September 2000, Wipro Technologies recruited 1275
employees, bringing the total number of employees as of September to over 8,578.
