Wipro opens remote tech management center

BANGALORE: Wipro Ltd. opened a global network command centre in Bangalore, eyeing a fast-growing export market worth up to $55 billion in remote computer management.

Set up at a cumulative investment of over Rs.22.50 crore in new generation technology and tool sets, the GCC provides Wipro customers a secure managed services environment, says company.

Outlining Wipro's strategy to grow its market share in the Infrastructure management space Suresh Vaswani, president, Wipro Technologies said, “Our vision is to emerge as one of the top 10 infrastructure management service providers globally. We are investing significantly in both nearshore and offshore infrastructure and technological capabilities."

According to Nasscom, the market size for Infrastructure Services that can be delivered through a global delivery model, and therefore by Indian vendors, is in excess of $55 billion.

Infrastructure Management Services is a differentiated service line for Wipro, and employs over 7000 people globally. It contributes around 20 percent of the total IT Services revenues of Wipro Ltd (including revenues from India, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.)

G.K. Prasanna, senior vice-president for Wipro in technology infrastructure services, said outsourcing of software applications now accounted for $12 billion of India's $17.2 billion industry, and infrastructure services could emulate it.

"It is as big as application development as an opportunity for India," Prasanna said.
