These prestigious awards, given by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, recognize outstanding persons with disabilities and individuals and organizations that are working for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Wipro started the initiative to make its software and services accessible for persons with disabilities by focusing on internal services that are used most frequently by its employees. It has already made more than 100 Employee Services accessible for persons with disabilities.

Wipro's website and its employee services have been developed as per the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) so that they are accessible to people with disabilities.

The applications, in the domains of .net, Java, SAP and Mobile (Android and iOS) are extensively validated against the guidelines before these are deployed. Software developers are first sensitized and then trained to enable them to develop as per the WCAG-2.0.

Involving persons with disabilities in this process helps create and implement solutions that are of optimal value and deployed well. To this end, a vibrant community of employees with disabilities known as "Winclusive" has been set up to discuss and examine the accessibility of various applications.

The community posts change requests which are then implemented after conducting feasibility studies. Changes are internally tested and released to the community which then validates the application. This community also supports new employees with disabilities.

Wipro employee Nupur Jain, who has been awarded the 2013 Role Model National Award, in the visual impairment category is a young and talented leadership trainer for Wipro's senior management. Nupur joined Wipro from management school while pursuing her postgraduate degree.
