Wipro ramps up Pune development center

PUNE: Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited today announced the inauguration of Phase II of its Development Center at Hinjewadi in Pune.

Set up with investment of Rs 375 crores, the new facility at Hinjewadi will ramp up Wipro's capacity to around 17,000 seats from the current 6,300. Pune development center will become Wipro’s second largest IT in India outside of Bangalore. The centre includes Wipro's remote infrastructure management center for managed services.

Wipro began Pune operations in August 2000 and the center has been a key hub for Wipro's expansion plans in India. Wipro currently also ramp expand its 5, 80,000 sq ft campus at Hinjewadi to 19,00,000 sq. ft when the expansion is completed.

The Pune facility will be primarily focused on delivering solutions to clients in the Banking, Securities and Capital Markets, Insurance, Telecom and Embedded systems space.

Wipro will launch three competencies centers at its Pune center shortly; they will be in the area of Hedge Funds Services and Operations, Embedded Systems and VLSI and Mainframe Technologies.

Recently, Credit Suisse announced the setting up of a Center of Excellence in Pune in association with Wipro Technologies for providing a wide range of IT and BPO services to the firm globally. In addition to IT, Wipro's Pune operations include significant Remote Infrastructure Management and BPO operations.
