Wipro partners with Sun, Netscape

Bangalore, August 17, 1999 : Wipro Software and services has partnered with the newly

formed Sun-Netscape alliance which has launched the iPlanet brand of Software products. As

the sole distributor of iPlanet, Wipro will provide advanced scalable and integrated

infrastructure and production-ready e-commerce solutions to businesses.

The Sun-Netscape Alliance was formed in March 1999 through a combination of resources

from Sun Microsystems and America Online, which had earlier acquired Netscape

Communications and Corporation. Over 300 customers have already chosen the Sun-Netscape

Alliance Internet solutions, which are available on the broadcast range of computing

platforms, including HP, IBM, DEC, Linux, SGI, Microsoft Windows and Sun.

Commenting on the alliance, Sun-Netscape alliance in Asia South Managing Director Dr

Thomas Choong said, "By building on the long-term investments made by Netscape and

Sun, leveraging their complementary skills and combining our unparalleled technology,

including packaged iPlanet applications, the alliance is uniquely positioned to capitalize

on the enormous potential of the fast-growing e-commerce applications."

The www.iplanet.com website of the alliance is a portal for learning, planning and

implementing e-commerce initiatives. It includes Net Economy Information Centre to help

fuel demand for e-commerce solutions by providing expert commentary and information about

business trends and tools. This site also provides news, information and technology

updates from e-commerce updates.

Headquartered in Singapore, the Alliance Asia South operation will target businesses

and government departments looking to deploy comprehensive online solutions to meet the

needs of their customers, partners and suppliers.
