Wipro in pact with Microsoft

BANGALORE: Wipro has struck a deal with Microsoft Corporation announcing the appointment of Wipro Technologies-Global R&D as a partner for outsourcing software development and testing in India.

Microsoft and Wipro will collaborate to enhance the capabilities around Microsoft's Windows 2000, Windows CE and Internet applications, a release issued jointly by the companies said. Wipro Technologies CEO Vivek Paul said, "This (partnership) marks the beginning of a significant strategic relationship with Microsoft. The partnership is in recognition of Wipro's quality processes and technology strengths in systems software, embedded solutions and e-commerce."

Microsoft Corporation, USA GM (Windows services group) S. Somasegar said, "We chose Wipro in India keeping in mind the company's in-depth experience in being an outsource partner for various leading software companies across the globe. Also, Wipro's expertise in system software and related technologies and development processes achieved through SEI CMM Level 5 will ensure higher levels of flexibility to develop products in a cost effective manner."

As per the agreement, Microsoft will outsource software development and test projects to Wipro Technologies and based on the specifications, Wipro will determine the size and composition of the development teams. Mr Paul also added, "This (partnership) marks the beginning of a significant strategic relationship with Microsoft,."
