Wipro Net Ltd. on Thursday launched a series
of Internet services for the corporate segment. The services include
Internet Mail Services, Internet Access Services, Web Hosting Services and
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
The company will also extend end-to-end Internet based business
solutions including cotent creation and web applications to corporate
customers. Speaking to the media, Wipro Net chief executive officer Anand
Talwai said that the services would be provided in eight cities to start
with and would be extended to 20 cities during the next 15 months. He
added that the company plans to provide the services to about 150
corporate customers by March 2000.
Explaining the reason for corporate networks, Mr Talwai said that
corporate spend about three per cent of their revenues on communications.
He said that Wipro Net had invested Rs 16 crore in technology so far and
would invest about Rs 50 crore in the next three years.
For the Internet access, there will be an option of leased line or
ISDN. As part of the value added access services, leased line will be
provided with ISDN backup, which will ensure 98 per cent uptime. As part
of the Internet e-mail services, Wipro Net will offer Internet Message
Gateway Services, which will connect proprietary e-mail systems to
Internet.
Wipro Net also also tied up with Delhi-based ERP vendor ESS to host
MakESS ERP package on the Internet. Corporate can access the ERP package
through the Internet. Each customer will be given separate space on the
ERP Net server. The package is targeted toward small and medium sized
companies.
The company also plans to come out with an initial public offer during
the next three years. Answering a question, Mr Talwai said that there was
no plan currently to buy an international gateway for Internet services.
