Wipro launches new PCs, workstations and servers

Wipro launched a range of personal

computers (PCs), Workstations, Servers, including a home PC brand. The four new products

launched are: Wipro Mentor – the corporate PC; Wipro Voyager – the home PC

range; Wipro NetPower server and Wipro Grafika engineering workstation. These new products

join Wipro SuperGenius, its entry level PCs for small and medium enterprises. "We

have launched a range of Wipro workstations and servers to meet every customer need. This

range will enable us to aim for the position of being India’s number 1 PC company

within the next two years," Arun Thiagarajan, Vice-Chairman, Wipro Ltd., said.

Wipro Mentor – The

Corporate PC, is designed to address the special needs of the corporate sector. Powered by

the Intel Pentium II and III processors, with unique features such as dynamic, dual BIOS

technology that results in zero downtime at the BIOS level and a cutting-edge feature, the

Case-Open Detection used as a security feature. It incorporates the latest Suspended to

RAM feature which ensures that in the suspend mode, the PC consumes low power and recovers

very fast from the suspend mode. It also offers complete management with a combination of

full-fledged hardware monitoring and Intel’s LDCM-the complete desktop management

tool.

Wipro Voyager is a

comprehensive Home Computer range which comes with antivirus, encyclopedia and additional

software bundled on the "M" series, Internet bundling options in certain cities

across the country, and with the latest P-III processor, 6 X DVDROM drive, fax model and

speakers with 4 ways surround sound. The "E" series of Wipro Voyager is a robust

cost effective Home PC with software, and other value additions for the technology

conscious customer under the "M" series.

Wipro NetPower,

Wipro’s first Server is a robust entry-level server packed with performance and

manageability features. Powered by the Intel Pentium III processor, it features an

on-board Emergency Management Port for remote diagnostics thereby increasing server uptime

and lowering the cost of ownership. Bundled with it is the UWIN application that allows

users to migrate legacy UNIX applications to Windows NT.

Wipro Grafika is the

Engineering Workstation model for 2D and 3D applications, also powered by the Intel

Pentium III processor. It features OpenGL Compliant Pentium III ready Graphics

Accelerators from Evans & Sutherland, industry leaders in graphic technology.

Wipro also announced a tie-up with

Hewlett-Packard for bundling the HP OpenView Desktop Administrator along with Wipro

Mentor. Suresh Vaswani, Chief Executive, Wipro Computers and Systems Integration division,

said, "We will be launching departmental and enterprise servers within the next two

months and a portable range with in the next six months. With this launch we have moved

from being a business desktop player to one with a full range." He said it was not

competing with Sun servers, rather it will be complementary. Wipro is Sun’s topmost

reseller in India. Wipro is hoping to touch Rs 1,000 crore revenue from systems and

services this fiscal as against Rs 712 crore in 1998-99.
