BANGALORE: Wipro Infotech has become the first computer hardware manufacturer
to achieve the MAIT (Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology)
Level-II recognition for Business Excellence. To be presented at the MAIT Annual
General Meeting on August 4, 2000, at New Delhi, this recognition affirms that
Wipro's business results are being achieved through a systematic and process
driven business excellence initiative. "Winning the MAIT Level II award
once again highlights the benefits of Wipro's corporation-wide Six Sigma quality
initiative that focuses on defect reduction and cycle time reduction in key
business processes," said Wipro Ltd. vice chairman Arun K Thiagarajan.
For fiscal year 2000, Wipro has realized Rs 16.20 crore savings resulting
from Six Sigma Quality projects and has achieved the Four Sigma level in all key
business processes. Wipro today has over 250 teams working on Six Sigma
projects, led by over 30 Black Belts who are technical experts in quality
processes and measurement techniques.
MAIT's exhaustive excellence model is based on EFQM (European Foundation for
Quality Management) which measures and evaluates key enablers such as the
structures and processes used for achieving business results in an organization,
and checks how the key enablers impact positively on business performance. MAIT
Level II award recognizes that Wipro Infotech has achieved the requisite scores
in the areas of leadership, process management, customer satisfaction, people
management and society.
