Wipro fixes ESI portal's technical issue

BANGALORE, INDIA: Wipro Infotech, an IT Business unit of Wipro Ltd and a provider of IT and business transformation services, on Tuesday announced that it has fixed the technical issue that the Employees' State Insurance Corporation's (ESIC) insurance portal was experiencing in the last couple of weeks.

The portal and is up and running in full swing and available for use to all stakeholders, said the company in a press release. This announcement is in the wake of a technical issue which had affected the functioning of the portal.

Anand Sankaran, senior VP and business head, IMEA, Wipro said, “The technical problem is completely resolved now, and the system is back to normal performance. The problem occurred due to a unique technical issue with the application software. We leveraged our global technical resources to identify and resolve the issue in the shortest possible time.”

Dr. C S Kedar, DG, ESIC, said, “The portal was experiencing some technical problem because of which employers were having trouble accessing the application to generate their monthly contribution and register their employees. Wipro identified the problem and put in place a solution to resolve the issue. The application performance has since improved and the portal is up and running once again.”

The ESIC awarded the IT enablement project named Project Panchdeep to Wipro in 2009. Project Panchdeep provides online facilities to employers and insured people for registration, payment of premium and disbursement of cash benefits. It also automates medicare services to all insured people resulting in the creation of one of the largest medical records database in the world.

The project includes other modules like HR, Finance and General Administration programs aimed at increasing the operational efficiency of ESIC. With this implementation, all ESIC stakeholders can avail anytime, anywhere healthcare services from across 2000 plus ESIC locations spread across the country which have been networked as part of the project.

ESIC is a statutory corporation under the Ministry of Labour & Employment and is the implementing agency of a pioneering, Social Security Scheme in India.
