BANGALORE: IT outsourcing major Wipro's product
engineering solutions (PES) and European geography revenues have surpassed the
$0.5 billion mark this year, the company said while announcing its financial
results here today.
The company, which has a 13,500 strong team of engineers in PES, claimed that it
is the world's largest independent R&D services provider. Following
acquisitions that the company made last year, the PES group recorded nine per
cent sequential growth in sales on Q-o-Q basis and a 34 percent year-on-year
growth rate.
In Q3 last year, Wipro acquired Austria-based NewLogic, which designs
semiconductor IP cores for WLAN, Bluetooth and IEEE 1394. The division provides
engineering services across areas like telecom, computing systems, storage,
semiconductor, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, avionics,
industrial automation, software products and medical devices.
There were 30 offshore development centers operational in 2005-`06 for PES
specific clients. The group has so far registered 58 invention disclosures along
with clients. Sixty-six new customer accounts were added on to the group this
fiscal.
Wipro has managed to improve its overall footprint in Europe by 46 per cent from
last year. PES now contributes to 31 per cent of Wipro's overall revenues.
