Wipro's digital business unit, Wipro Digital is acquiring San Francisco-based design consultancy Cooper for $8.5 million in an all-cash deal.
Cooper will become part of Designit, Wipro Digital's strategic design arm, further strengthening its design and innovation capabilities, expanding its reach in North America and adding capabilities in professional design education.
“Our combined capability across design, strategy and technology gives us a unique platform for working with clients on their digital initiatives. With Cooper, we will be able to offer world-class UX (user experience) and interaction design,” said Rajan Kohli, global head and senior vice president of Wipro Digital.
Cooper is best known for inventing many tools and approaches used in design, including the Goal-Directed Design method and personas as a practical interaction design tool, Wipro said. It employs 35 people in offices in San Francisco and New York and provides consulting and training services to top brands including Fortune 500 companies, leading non-profits and government agencies.
Some of Wipro's recent acquisitions include a 26 percent stake in IT consulting firm Drivestream in June, and Brazil’s IT firm InfoSERVER SA for $8.7 million in January.
