Wipro Technologies has developed Knowledge Net (KNET),
a portal solution to help its employees, wherever they are around the world, to
access and search for stored experiences, best practices, documentation,
presentations and domain experts within the company.
According to the press release, KNET is a web portal solution built on Microsoft
Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server, and
has helped Wipro reduce time-to-market as it allows for better collaboration
among its employees. These functionalities have helped Wipro save on the time
and effort spent by employees in various client engagements.
The KNET portal connects people to people, people to content, and people to the
organization through the collaboration of individuals, workgroups and business
lines. KNET is made up of five sub portals:
DocKNet, a document management portal, KoNnEcT, a directory of employees who are
experts in various technologies, Knetworks, online discussion forums, Reusable
Components, which contains ready-to-use templates, best practices, reusable
code, tools, and methodologies and the War Room portal for workgroup members
situated at different physical locations.
Commenting on the knowledge management portal, head of knowledge management at
Wipro Raghunath Thali said, “KNET has become a significant strategic tool for
Wipro Technologies and has revolutionized the manner in which knowledge is
captured and shared across the organization. Having relevant information and
knowledge easily available to employees at the right time has enabled us to save
significant employee days from each project and in turn deliver greater value
and cost savings to our clients.”
