Wipro BPO chief quits

BANGALORE: Wipro Ltd. today informed the stock exchanges that

it had appointed T K Kurien as the Chief Executive of its BPO

business.

The appointment has been made consequent to Raman Roy's decision to resign from Wipro after a successful stint of over 3 years, to pursue interests outside Wipro.

The 48-year old Roy had founded Spectramind eServices that was later acquired by Wipro Ltd in July 2002.

Announcing these changes, Vivek Paul, Vice Chairman, Wipro said, “We are

pleased to have Kurien lead our BPO initiative at a time when it is at an

inflexion point."

acknowledge the significant contribution of Raman in building this

business. His ability to envision the opportunity and his inspiring

leadership in executing the vision were key in taking Wipro BPO to a

position of undisputed leadership.”

Reflecting on his new role, Kurien said, “BPO is a large opportunity

for the IT outsourcing industry and as a leader, Wipro BPO stands to

benefit considerably. We hope to take Wipro BPO to the next level through

a combination of tighter alignment with our vertical solutions, leveraging

our pool of domain expertise and increased optimization and

standardization of processes and technologies.”



Prior to this assignment, Kurien was part of the Wipro BPO

business driving the transaction processing business initiative. Kurien also had a successful stint as the CFO of Wipro GE Medical Systems Ltd. and as CEO of GE X Ray from October 1997 to January 2000.
