RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Wipro Arabia Limited (WAL), an IT joint-venture between India's Wipro Ltd. and Dar Al-Riyadh, has recently won deals worth $750 million, says a media report.
The contracts are from sectors like education, telecommunications and banking in the country. They include a full range of services to be provided to clients including integrated IT solutions, application development, consultancy and infrastructure-related services, reported Arab News.
Major orders include IT projects from the King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabian Airlines, Etihad Atheeb Telecommunications, and some banks.
"The Kingdom is a critical component of our global expansion strategy, as it is a rapidly growing market. Wipro has deployed more than 600 IT professionals, including 157 Saudi nationals, on the projects currently being executed by the company in the Kingdom," Suresh Vaswani, chief executive officer of Wipro's IT Business, was quoted as saying by Arab News.
Interestingly, the company's Saudi local employees include nine women.
It was in January 2007 that Wipro Ltd. and Dar Al-Riyadh came together to form a joint venture. They then named it Wipro Arabia Limited and the entity was envisaged to provide a scalable model for both partners to address the fast emerging segments in KSA’s IT services market.
Wipro Arabia provides IT solutions including application development and management, package implementation services and system integration services.
