WiMAX Forum chairman C S Rao to join RCom

BANGALORE, INDIA: Telecom operator Reliance Communications seems to have roped in C S Rao, chairman, Wimax Forum, India Chapter.

Although Rao did not specify what would his new role in the teleco service provider company, over the phone he said that he will join RCom in a few days.

Recently chip maker Intel, the staunch supporter of WiMAX technology, had said that it will embrace LTE once it is ready.

C S Rao, chairman, Wimax Forum, India Chapter, says: "Now that there is a  spirited and motivated campaign for promoting TD LTE and FDD LTE as the llllong term evolution for 3G , Intel can not ignore that path of technology."

"Intel as a  chip company can not afford ignoring the demand of SMART phone form factor devices with built-in e mail, Facebook, Twitter, and mobile, online transaction capabilities and thus is also focusing on future centric based LTE  alongside current winning horse on the track i.e. WiMAX."

However, Intel's this take, This together with Rao's move could be a blow to WiMAX Forum initiatives in India.

"I am not at all moving away from the  strong advocacy technology cause of WiMAX. I am a firm and passionate believer in WiMAX technology for the Broadband proliferation in Inda as it is Open, IP and  Multimedia centric with most affordable price points," adds Rao.
