Will MNP be pushed to next year?

The much-awaited mobile number portability (MNP) may not be implemented as per schedule with state-run MTNL expressing its inability to implement it before next year, citing technical constraints.

Well, this is something which could easily be anticipated. Even as India had been talking about implementing it for sometime, several technological and process related issues persist. It is noteworthy that MTNL offers services in Mumbai and New Delhi, the two key metros.

MNP has to be implemented in the country in a phased manner, beginning from metros, December 31, 2009 onwards. It is clear that a service like MNP cannot be implemented leaving some operators behind.
