BANGALORE, INDIA: The countdown has begun for the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) with the world-wide launch scheduled on June 6.
There were complaints that IPV4 had limited address space and flat routing infrastructure apart from few security and configuration issues.
Internet Service Providers (ISP) all over the world would be part of the IPV6 launch. Some of the IT companies that have announced their support for the IPV6 are AT & T, Comcast, Free Telecom, KDDI, XS4ALL Intermode. D-Link and Cisco will provide the initial networking equipment.
The content providers as of now will be Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Bing. The initial content delivery networks are Limelight and Akamai.
The above list is expected to grow at a rapid rate as various other IT majors and content providers would be pooling in after the launch.
