BANGALORE, INDIA: Online encyclopedia Wikipedia, which was down for over an hour on Monday evening, at around 7.30 pm IST, is up and running now.
Wikimedia, the site's parent company, tweeted, 'The outage was due to a fiber optic cable cut near our Florida data center.'
Recently, Twitter and Google Talk had also experienced similar outages.
The incident occurred near its worldwide data centre in Tampa, Florida. The website's status page showed that almost whole of its infrastructure, including its API, was down.
Users took to Twitter to vent out their anger. Some of the tweets read thus:
