NEW DELHI, INDIA: Former auditor RP Singh's claims on the CAG report have kicked up a major storm in the Indian political parties. Singh, who was the Director General of Audit in the CAG, had questioned the national auditor's estimates of presumptive loss figure of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore and said that according to him, the loss due to the first-come-first -served policy followed by the government was Rs. 37, 000 crore and this too, he said, was entirely recoverable, according to a report on NDTV.

''Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi should clarify his stance on the controversy over the 2G spectrum losses mentioned in the draft report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG),'' union minister Manish Tewari said .

"What is extremely important is that (in) May 2010, when the draft report is prepared by R.P. Singh, the loss is quantified at Rs.20,645 crore. But in November 2010, (when) the report is presented before the parliament, the loss jumps to Rs.1 lakh 76 thousand crore," Tiwari told reporters. "Who is responsible for the 2G loss figure in the report?" Tiwari asked.

Although Congress is demanding for an enquiry into the matter, Twitteratis are raising the question as to why RP Singh has chosen to speak on the matter now. ''frm where does RP singh (frmr DG, CAG) turns out to challenge CAG's 2g loss figure, where was he all these years, y now ?,'' says a tweet from Proud Hindu. ''RP Singh is speaking out today but why didn't he refuse to follow an incorrect instruction from his boss. Convenient timing to get righteous,'' tweeted noted journalist Rahul Kanwal. Rahul Kanwal also believes that Singh has been propped up by the UPA Governement ''This ex-CAG officer Singh seems to have been propped up by UPA Govt to turn tables on Vinod Rai & BJP during Parliament. Spin doctoring.''

Murli Manohar Joshi has rubbished the claims made by RP Singh. However, what do you have to say about this issue? Do let us know.
