BANGALORE, INDIA: Ever since Reuters broke the news, last week, that Massachusetts-based storage company EMC and Armonk, New York-based International Business Machines Corp (IBM) are bidding for Dallas, Texas-based cloud player, SoftLayer, for a deal worth over $2 billion, several follow ups have surfaced analysing the same.

In a report, GigaOm, says that IBM might be the sole contender for the OpenStack player as EMC might drop out as it has VMware in its kitty, which has already announced services similar to Amazon Web Services.

Moreover, as per the GigaOm report, IBM, which had eyes on another cloud player, RackSpace, is more desperate to build its own cloud portfolio through an acquisition as it is finding it hard to build it internally.

Forbes, in a report, says that SoftLayer has hired Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse to handle the process.

(We did not bother to contact any of these companies, who are allegedly involved in the deal, since it was very much evident from all the reports, on the web, that they will definitively not respond to our queries as well)
