MUMBAI, INDIA: India has now become one of the biggest markets for WhatsApp, with 70 million active user base, which is over one-tenth of its global users.

Neeraj Arora, business head, WhatsApp, at the fifth annual INK Conference, said: "The user-base has doubled to 600 million from the 30 million over the past three years. The company has flourished because of its focus on the product, rather than the business side of things. The founders wanted to develop a cool product which will be used by millions and did not have business things like valuations.”

The instant messaging app was bought by Facebook in a USD 19-billion deal earlier this year. ''WhatsApp will remain a distinct identity, although it will benefit through learnings from the social networking giant,'' said he.
