WhatsApp News: Archived Chats now called “Read Later” on iOS as well

WhatsApp was considering to replace “Archived Chats” with “Read Later” on the app. This improved version is still under development. Only a select few are able to view and use the version. Now, WhatsApp is considering to rig the feature on iOS as well.

WABetaInfo talked about the feature of Vacation mode that allows a user to keep the archive chats where the are even when new messages arrive. This way, your new messages won’t get automatically unarchived anymore. In a future update, “Archived Chats” replaces with “Read Later”. When WA releases the feature, you will find a new persistent cell at the top of your chat list called Read Later.

How to enable the settings?

This introduction explains that any archived chat will always stay in your archive (even if they are not muted), in order to reduce interruptions. But there’s something else, too. WhatsApp is also introducing the Edit button in the “Read Later” section.

The company has updated a banner which, explains that ‘Read Later’ is the new ‘Archived Chats’ and that it has been implemented to reduce interruptions. Users will be able to disable the Vacation Mode implemented with “Read Later” in the “Read Later Settings”. This feature is still in the development phase.

The Edit button shows two actions:

1. Select Chats: You can select more chats at once to quickly unarchive them.

2. Edit Archive Settings: To change how archived chats work.

The user can decide to disable the Vacation mode included in “Read Later” selecting Edit Archive Settings (or WhatsApp Settings >> Chats) and enabling Move Chats in Read Later.

The version is 2.20.130.16 in iOS. If you have the version and still can’t access the feature, don’t worry. It is still under development, as stated by WABetaInfo.
