What's the buzz at RSA security conference?

BANGALORE, INDIA: The cloud remains inherently insecure. The Wikileaks release of 5 million emails pilfered from security think-tank Stratfor shows the power and pervasiveness of hacktivism. And enterprises and small businesses alike are struggling to keep up with the volume of advanced persistent threats — nasty, sophisticated attacks that just keep coming and coming until they break through barriers and capture data.

Yes, these are the big threat items on the security hit list. And this is why all the attention at this year’s RSA Conference, arguably the world’s biggest gathering of security vendors, solution providers and practitioners in the world, is fixated on one topic above all: mobility.

It’s not that cloud security has lost any of its luster. The cloud, its complementary security technologies and best practices are getting a fair amount of attention, again, at RSA this year. So too are next-generation firewalls (more on them tomorrow), which are seen as a tremendous asset for countering APTs, which typically attack at the application layer.
